New Year Hints from Newport Audiology

With the holidays upon us, we find our thoughts and energies turning to friends and family, as we search for that perfect gift, bake special treats and catch up on what has happened in the past year. Above all, the holiday’s focus on sharing time with those we love.

With each gathering we attend, we may be noticing that hearing what is going on has become more difficult. Hearing is something we often take for granted-that is, of course, until we begin to lose it.

If you have a hearing loss, you already know the warning signs, trouble understanding normal conversations, difficulty hearing the television and telephone, inability to hear in noisy environments, and trouble telling where sounds are coming from.

You know the emotional toll your hearing loss takes on you individually, but have you really looked at how it affects the people in your life? The spouse who feels slighted because you ‘never listen’ to what she says, the children who have begun to worry about your memory because you don’t  ‘remember’ what they just told you, or that grandchild who doesn’t think you like him because you sometimes don’t answer him.

These are just some of the effects of hearing loss that we often don’t see. It is such a shame to miss the “juice” in life. The interplay of conversations, the shared jokes an unimportant comments that lose their silliness or irony when repeated, but add such depth to our relationships.

Let this be the season you give the gift of YOUR improved hearing to those you love.

Recycle Dead Batteries
